Observation details
Continuing first cycle bird first found by Jeff Allen on 10 Jan. Large white-headed gull a bit bigger than the Californias that were near it but clearly smaller than the Westerns. Long-winged and round-headed with a small bill gave it that typical Iceland look that they are supposed to have (but don't always show). The bird was obviously faded a bit and was clearly the whitest bird in the flock. The bird had scattered faint brownish or cinnamon markings on all the coverts, scapulars and tertials. The tails was the darkest part of the bird showing more gray tones and had an extremely thin white terminal band. In flight the tail continued to show darker than the rest of the bird.
