NOTES: Noise from pump in background. Bird was on dead stump about 1/2 m above water level amid artificially flooded swamp about 60 m away. Recorded at pond behind worker's housing for hotel. Contains an internal announcement, with little vocalization before announcement, but a bit after it by both Porphyrula and Jacana after startled by Carinia moschata. Mostly clear, with some scattered clouds; calm; 90¡ F. Bird was in the open and well seen. [This recording begins with four of the Limpkin-like "Gheeek! Calls (0:14-0:31) described in BNA account. Following the first voice announcement are series of calls by both the gallinule and Jacana spinosa, apparently elicited by the presence of Cairina moschata. The gallinule gave the same gheeek! call in series, this overlapping the "chatter" of the jacana at the beginning of each series (1:53-2:01, 2:25-2:28, 2:54-3:00, 3:17-3:19, 3:45-3:48). Quality unchanged (2-3 - good signal but with an annoying humm from a water pump - BEST part is at 2:03-2:23, which is quality 2, apart from humm) - CAM - 25 February 2005]. Other Behaviors: Emit Alarm. Habitat: Swamp, Pond.
