Observation details
Single bird in adult non-breeding plumage. Picked out at the time as a possible/probably Little, and numerous digiscoped images obtained. After further consultation and first-hand experience with the species, I'm fairly confident that the bird is a Little Stint. Key features noted in the field at the time and considered suggestive of Little Stint were - relatively long legs, including tibia (unfortunately not shown well in the photos) - proportionally plump and dumpy appearance cf. associated Red-necked Stints - proportionally longer and finer-tipped bill - relatively broad dark feather centres Further characters noted based on subsequent research that are evident in the photos and also considered suggestive of Little Stint - bill shape, in addition to length and fine point noted in field, more tapered and decurved for entire length - proportionally thinner crown viewed from above/head on - subtly different facial pattern, plainer face (somewhat similar to difference in facial pattern between Red and Great Knot) - more extensive dark patterning on the crown viewed from above/head on
