Observation details
I discovered and observed this Fall Blackpoll Warbler from about 7:35 to 7:44 AM today. It was in the Cottonwoods in back of the Sports Grill. For this warbler, general structure and plumage characteristics eliminate all species but Bay-breasted Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler and Pine Warbler. Pine Warbler is eliminated because this warbler shows a distinctly streaked back and it has white tips on the primaries. Also, the tail is relatively short. The characteristics of this warbler that support Blackpoll Warbler over Bay-breasted Warbler are: White undertail coverts that contrast with the yellowish flanks; Streaked sides of the greenish-yellow breast; Distinct dark eyeline and pale supercilium; Dark gray nape (no green on nape); No chestnut coloration at all on the sides; The legs and feet are not all dark - there is orange coloration on and around the feet.
