Observation details
Flew in from the N at ca 1733 (seen before starting this count, while walking home from work along Breckenridge St). Thought it perhaps had a full crop. At that point I could tell it was a Falco, but did not get a sense of size. Spotted again at the beginning of this count, at which point it was perched in a Black Walnut E of Hoback, S of Broadway, looking around. Could not quite tell in the field whether it was a male or female/imm based on back color (back was to the NE), but photos confirm that the back is light grayish, indicating adult male. Remained in the Black Walnut until 1755, when it flew to the S or SE. Soon spotted it again (with help from a neighbor) in the top of a spruce along the alley between Hoback and Alta, ca 50 m SE of its previous perch. Neighbors saw a male Prairie Merlin perched W of Hoback sometime between 0700 and 0800 on the morning of the same day.
