Media notes
Ross's goose next to Canada goose.
Observation details
Observed a Ross's goose flush out from a corn stubble field with several hundred Canada geese. The flock landed nearby in a open water topsoil pond. The Ross's goose displayed a white body and the wings tipped in black. It was noticeably smaller in flight compared to the Canada geese, which clearly stood out of placed based upon my experience with the size of snow geese in flight. When the bird stood next to Canada geese on the edge of the pond there was a dramatic difference in size, like a herring gull in similar size comparison. The head was small and round and the bill stubby in size and shorter than that of a snow goose, The Ross's goose also lacked the dark lips but looked darker at the base. I was able to take photos with cell phone against spotting scope.
