sounds during the pre-dawn roding display from four different birds (with one in particular close and on-target, the others mostly far in the background). The bird was visible for most of this recording, flying high overhead. There was a lot of variability in the whooshing sound made during the moderately shallow stoops made at the end of each vocal element; at times there was almost no mechanical sound produced at all, while during others it was loud and prevalent. Habitat was dense elfin forest on steep terrain.
Started at 5:24, mostly done by 5:43, with one bird going until 5:47. Then at 7:15, out of curiosity, I played the tape about 500m up the Polylepis trail past the feeders, and had two birds respond!
