Parasitic jaeger. Harveys Lake Photo by Rick Koval
Observation details
First documented record for Luzerne County. I found this bird around 7:15 AM flying and circling up into the sky over Harveys Lake the day after Hurricane Sandy. Gull-sized bird with falcon-like flight. Was able to see hooked bill, dark body and long pointed tail tips, unlike spatula shape of Pomarine jaeger but not as long as long-tailed jaeger. The width of wings were not broad like the larger pomarine jaeger. Bird flew high into the sky and never returned.
