photo Y. Bree - eating storm petrel
Observation details
Was scanning the lava fields looking for these birds as they preyed on the Wedge-rumped Storm petrels. I spotted one some distance away and tried to get others to see it. A few could but as we tried to get closer it disappeared - didn't see it fly. Charles (guide) was out in front looking over lava fields and nearly stepped on another owl right on the path! It had a petrel, and as we moved up it moved under a bare bush (still in plain sight) and fed on the petrel. After it flew back out onto the lava field.
