Observation details
Continuing bird. I had scoped the gull flock that was roosting on the river ice from the marina, several times, without luck; most birds were sleeping or partially blocked by chunks of ice. I gave up and decided to walk the Bill Burton fishing pier in order to tick the resident Peregrine Falcons. While doing so I noticed that the roosting gulls were much closer from this vantage, the light was better and I had more elevation. Within a minute of scanning I found the ICGU. 2nd cycle bird. Smaller than HERG with a more delicate build, finer bill and longer wing tips. Whitish overall but with some pale gray adult mantle feathers present; fine pale brown markings on scapulars, wings and tail, smudgier pale markings on neck, breast, sides and underparts. Bill pale greenish with black tip, eye dark, feet dull pink. Photos to be added. County bird.
