Media notes
Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator), pair and imm., Coffenbury Lake, Ft. Stevens, Clatsop Co., OR, 15 Jan. 2018. This photo shows vaguely V-shaped juncture b/w forecrown feathering and bill.
Observation details
Continuing. Black b/w bill and eye perhaps a bit more pinched-looking than usual, but otherwise field marks indicate Trumpeter, not Tundra. Bills large and straight-sided. No yellow. Black of bill extends somewhat thickly to eye, and somewhat evenly down past gape. Juncture b/w forecrown feathering & bill more V-shaped than U-shaped (see 4th photo). Very straight-necked. Backs evenly rounded. Immature quite dark-colored for January.
