Ph. by Carl Haynie, 8 January 1989 w.s.w. of Glen Rose (Somervell Co.)
Observation details
This was TBRC 1989-11; TPRF 733 (AB 43:271, 339; Haynie, C. B. 1989. First photographic record of Common Redpoll in Texas. Bull. Texas Ornith. Soc. 22:18-20). This bird was found by Oleta Bilger on Jan. 7 at her home "6 miles west southwest of downtown Glen Rose in Somervell County". Also "~6 miles west of downtown Glen Rose" (Haynie). Also described as "6 mi. west of Glen Rose just west of intersection of US67 & FM203" (Sexton). I no longer have her exact address, so the placemark is approximated based on these notes. Over 145 observers saw this bird. After arriving at her home, my notes from Jan 8 read as follows: "This was a finch noticeably smaller than a house finch being about the same size as a siskin. The bird's overall appearance resembled a pine siskin's - streaked brown with gray wings and tail. Setting this individual apart from the others, however, was its bright wine-red cap...".
