Observation details
**** MEGA. Adult, so identification relatively straightforward: stocky, dark-mantled gull about the size of Herring Gull; heavy, drooping bill with bulbous tip; dull, pinkish legs; yellow orbital ring (rules out "Chandeleur's Gull", which has a reddish-orange orbital ring and dull greenish legs); wide white 'skirt'. Appears to be the paler-mantled nominate subspecies. The right wing was hanging down at all times, and the bird seemed incapable of flight, although otherwise in relatively good condition. New species for Honduras and third record for Central America.
