Observation details
On arrival, park host informed us that she had just seen a headless Chachalaca dropped by a startled hawk. She said she had put the carcass off to the side and to not be disturbed if we found it. Shortly after starting our walk, we located the Juvenile Coopers Hawk show below grasping a Chachalaca. The hawk fled into the thicket just after this shot. I startled a hawk twice more on my walk, both times only seeing fleeing tail feathers consistent with being the same bird. Once was at the pond overlook shelter and once at the feeding station just to the east. Image below was taken from the first split in the trail after entering the gated portion of the park.
