Media notes
Rufous Hummingbird
Observation details
Seen briefly at 09:48., 09:57, 10:27. Some photos. Definite Selasphorus species of hummingbird. I did not see (nor obtain photos of) it’s spread tail, but another expert did, and he thought it looked good for Rufous. He and I suspect this is an adult female. This rare hummer was visiting a feeder at a nearby private residence. Subsequent correspondence with the homeowners revealed that on or about Dec. 7, the hummer fed heavily on special protein fluid, and then it disappeared. We can only hope it departed safely southward, with winter approaching. (The homeowners did not note a specific date this autumn when they first saw this RUHU, but they notified a birder -PCo- around Nov 13).
