Media notes

NOTES: Background: WHITE THROATED BOBWHITE (COLINUS SP.); General climate: DRY; SEMI-DESERT SAVANNAH. THERE SEEMED TO BE ABOUT NINE TYRANNUS MELANCHOLICUS SATRAPA PRESENT IN THE AREA TO ONE TYRANNUS COUCHII, BUT AT ONE SPOT A BIRD OF EACH SPECIES WAS SINGING THEIR SPECIES-SPECIFIC DAWN SONG AT THE SAME TIME WHILE PERCHED Sex: 10 UNKNOWNON BUSHES THAT WERE ONLY ABOUT 5-6 METERS APART. THE TWO SONGS OVERLAP ON THE TAPE. ON 10 JUNE 1979 IDENTIFIED AS TYRANNUS COUCHII BY L.I. DAVIS. ON 02 JULY 1979 IDENTIFIED AS TYRANNUS MELANCHOLICUS SATRAPA BY L.I. DAVIS. IDENTIFIED AS T. COUCHII BY T. P [T. A. Parker III] [There are four parts to this recording, the first two contain the Regularly Repeated Vocalizations (RRV) of Smith (1966. Communication and relationships in the genus Tyrannus. Publ. Nuttall Ornith. Cl. 6), which presumably represent the "Dawn Songs" of BNA. Each RRV is preceded by a variable number of "Tzeeeeerrhhh" Calls (or Compound Vocalizations; CdVs). The third part of the recording has these same vocalizations (RRVs) overlapping the songs (or RRVs) of Tyrannus melancholicus. Finally, the last part has seven RRVs of T. melancholicus without any T. couchii (as far as I can determine). Quality changed from 1 to 1-2, 2 - CAM - 22 December 2004].
