Observation details
No rufous on bottom of tail (folded, i.e., R6), which excludes M. crinitus and M. tyrannulus. Bill mostly black (excludes M. swainsoni). Not dark above, excluding M. tuberculifer. Appeared very slightly edged rufous along folded primaries. Mostly silent except for what seems like a soft 'pic' note (not seen and heard giving this note simultaneously - maybe M. tyrannulus????). With more vocalizations, perhaps not safely distinguishable between M. venezuelensis and M. pananensis as this area is apparently in the contact zone (per Cornell's Neotropical Birds Online). Numerous eBird records from nearby Los Flamencos report both species, but with few or no supporting details.
