Observation details
Flock on far shore of lagoon; poor photographs for ID are from Lumix at 600mm & iPhone via scope. Initial impression of sleeping birds with legs submerged = willets (which I see frequently at close range) due to white near eye, which was later seen more clearly as white supercilium. As birds awakened, bills seen clearly as long/black/decurved; legs were yellow-green, not thick/gray. Only size comparison nearby = blue-winged teal—birds appeared about as tall as chest-to-head of teal (difficult to see in angle of these photos). None flew; none observed feeding. Cuban guide Alejandro Llanes Sosa confirmed Stilt Sandpiper ID through scope & that sightings at this lagoon are not uncommon.
