Snowy Owl atop the bank of field lights at Heinz Field, downtown Pittsburgh
Observation details
Continuing bird at Heinz Field, presumably first seen yesterday by stadium personnel and reported to the National Aviary. Bird was perched atop the bank of field lights along the east side of the stadium, visible only from the sidewalk along North Shore Drive between Gate A (south side of stadium) and the Ohio River. Found it within 10 minutes of arrival, and it remained in place around the middle of the bank of lights until about 5:10pm when it started making short flights toward the north end of the stadium. By 5:20 it had flown out of sight. Large white owl, large head, feathered legs, bulky build. Moderately marked bird, as generally depicted for adult female or first year male.
