Observation details
Trent Stanley & I were birding at the Old Battlefield in San Pasqual Valley on the morning of March 6, 2011 when we both found a black vulture soaring above the ridge with turkey vultures. The bird eventually flew off to the north-west and was reportedly seen by Dr. Bruce Rideout the next morning at the SD Wild Animlal Park . The same bird, based upon the photographs showing a rather ragged appearance, showed up in Santa Barbara about a month later. This bird was accepted by the California Bird Record Committee as being the first record for San Diego County. There were no other observers.
