Media notes
Joe Guinn photo. The bird soon came back into view and did its little dance, tip-toeing, gliding, and peddling across the water. In this photo you can see that the feet were not visible beyond the tail and the rump pattern fits Band-rumped to a tee. You can also barely see the lighter wing coverts.
Observation details
We had two Storm-Petrels out from Bruton (same area as skua and frigatebird). Joe Guinn got some ID shots of them. The action was right for Band-rumped, and Jon Dunn also agreed that they were Band-rumped. Jeff refound one of them on the water the next day. The photos show the feet do not extend past the tail, faint upperwing covert bar, and that the white of the rump wraps around a bit to the undertail coverts.
