Observation details
Small hawk seen in the forest interior, whitish underparts, dark gray upperparts, darker blackish crown and face, with yellow facial mask and bright yellow eye. First impression in the field of an Accipiter, though later entered as Slaty-backed Forest-Falcon without considering Gray-bellied Hawk. Review of photos by others experienced in the region brought up the suggestion of Gray-bellied Hawk, due to overall Accipter-like proportions including relatively smaller bill, more sharply contrasting dark crown and cheek than expected for Slaty-backed FF, and bright yellow vs. dark iris.
