Observation details
Initially as isolated individuals in smaller lake, but later joined larger flock of hooded mergansers. Larger than hooded, distinctly rusty red breasts. May have been four birds, but can't rule out that I saw the same two birds on different occasions. Did a careful look at a rapid photomosaic of hooded merganser flock and could only find two red-breasted at one time.
