Observation details
I completely threw myself off with the ID of these birds by ASSUMING it was a mixed flock of Canada/Cackling. I was comparing them to each other, which is good to do of course because there were size variations among the flock. Three of the birds were fairly small and they seemed to have a more pronounced contrast of white collars. Most all birds had the white collars though. All birds had the wide stocky necks. The necks were not long and slender, even on the largest birds. The bills were compact and they seemed to have steep foreheads. The smallest birds had small round heads that were actually squared off on corners.
