Observation details
Jordan and I watched the kittiwake fly in from the south. It proceeded to rest and hunt directly off West Point and North Beach from about 9:30-12:30 and was seen by a number of other birders during that time. It flew within 20 feet of us at West Point, allowing for excellent views. We were also able to watch it plunge diving for food and witnessed it catch a number of small fish. At 12:30 the kittiwake took off and flew W out into the Sound and I lost it among numerous feeding Mew Gulls near the Kitsap county line. Small gull about the size of a Mew Gull, but noticeably larger and bulkier than a Bonaparte's. Juvenile, with a thick black crescent on the nape, bold black "M" pattern on wings, and black edge on the tail.
