Observation details
Continuing bird. First heard shortly after I arrived at the boat launch. It flew to trees on the south side of the bayou by the frisbee golf station. It called several times, then flew by me and landed in the reeds. It called again several times, then flew north. Other birders arrived around 8:00 and the ani came out of the reeds and perched about 20 feet from us, posing for pictures. We all observed it through binoculars and scope. No grooves were seen. Vocalization was a rising up call. The ani then flew back to the north side of the bayou where it continued to call and perch until close to 9:00 a.m.
