Observation details
***mega: Continuing first record in Middlesex Co. in 20 years found by Jason Forbes. Slightly concave bill, round end to forehead, rear edge of bill curved (not straight). Tiny yellow loral spot just barely visible but very indistinct. Grayish cast to culmen area, so not a full adult. Bobbing and jerking head around, presumably to get long aquatic plant that was stuck on its bill off. Moved from back of the pond to CANG flock near the boat ramp viewpoint (where we were) with a short flight, then slowly drifted back to back of pond. Then took off, circling around a few times before deciding to head south (parallel Sudbury River, upstream). In flight, wing beats fairly fast, stiffer, and more abrupt than MUSW; did not hear any noise generated by the wings. My long overdue 300th Massachusetts lifer!
