Observation details
First Channel Islands record. In thatchy dead grass patch on NW side of plateau of Signal Peak. Calling after it was flushed from the grass and perching and rocking up and down with cocked tail. This was a tiny richly colored wren with a short tail and an orangeish rump visible as the bird first flushed straight away from me. Tawny buff underparts with some whitish on the lower breast extending to a white throat. Lightly speckled/streaked cap, back with blackish/white streaks, barred wings and tail, a modest cream-colored line just extending behind the eye and unlike the large bold eyebrow shown by Marsh Wrens.
