Recordist's Tape #69A/B, 69A. Natural (no playback), then playback own song. Response to Playback: Normal song. Part A: November 4, 1974. The songs were natural to begin with, then playback (annotated) gave rise to the loud song response which was accompanied by much wing flicking. The sp. does do a lot of wing shivering/flicking when singing. Plick calls of 2 males interacting again! (same as in ML 74578). The interfigure interval is shortened (to same tape--no more available). Most of the song repertory is heard in this cut. CAT NO. 74579, PARTS B & C: Time: 1500-1725. Date: 23 Oct 1974. Specimen not collected. Confidence in ID: 100%. Recordist's Tape # 68A/B, 69A. Bkground Sounds: Child with cough!! Geopelia striata. No. of Animals/Sex: One adult male. Range Status: Normal, highly endangered. Sound Category: Song. Stimulus for Sound: Playback own song. Cut Length Part C 9:26.) Playback used there at the latter part of the recording and my notes: "The male flew low over me each time--so low as to almost alight on my head and (my audience that were very quiet!) the c hildren ducked their heads. He came close to the tape recorder and perched on the nearest branch to it." (The eight children were very quiet!) Annotation gives the information on the posture during singing. At the rattle or buzz in the song the wings are lifted over his back. Each time he foraged in the buds of the growing tips of the trees/bushes insects--using the brush-tongue. This behaviour differed from the congener on Mauritius Foudia rubra as did the elaborate song display with the wings. Part C ends at 1725 hrs.
