Observation details
Adult seen from end of trail. Roosting with gulls on rocks on far left side of Tatoosh island; was still sitting there when we left. A handsome sulid that was taller than the nearby gulls. Chocolate-brown upperparts and head. All white belly with sharp contrast against the brown that extended onto the upper chest. The bill was long and pointed; too far to see bill color other than that it was pale. Stretched wings once: long, pointed brown wings with white patch starting at axillaries and extending about half way out the center of the underwings. Medium length pointed tail. *Note* Others looked for it mid-day (a bit before noon?) and did not see it. Observers checked again on 11/5 in the morning to no avail.
