Media notes
THIS IS A ZOOMED IN PIC OF THE IMAGE ABOVE. This pic shows the structure and upper dark parts. Although the lighting might be making the overall picture darker as you can not see the two-toned bill. I would not say it is diagnostic.
Observation details
First seen and ID by Eric Ripma at 11:07 flying near the point. It landed behind berm. Patrick Wright and I went to try and relocate the bird by walking the shoreline. We found the PS at the point. We got a quick look at the bird from about 30 yards through binoculars. A plump, medium size shorebird with a two toned bill, yellowish at base/dark at tip with slight droop. Yellowish legs, dark upper parts. Bird quickly flew initially to the West, made a tight turn and flew East toward Canada. It was at this point that we made additional observations through our scopes. Upper wings, back and head significantly darker than Dunlin that have been at the point on a daily basis. Bill and leg color also rule out Dunlin. I have one terrible pic that shows the structure and dark upper parts. I am not sure that it is diagnostic. Identification was made primarily by observations through binoculars. However, I am including the pic here so that all the information that was collected on site is available.
