Observation details
Juvenile light morph seen about 11:50am. Spotted by Joe Swertinski to the north towards the notch. He called out that he had an odd bird and I got my scope on it. As it turned I saw the upper side pattern and recognized it as different than our expected buteos and started taking photos. My photos show a buteo with lanky pointed wings and dark flight feathers. Underside of body is light and has streaking. Tail underside has defined sub terminal band with other bands visible. No patagial bars. Upperside photos show pale tail base. Bird dropped out of sight behind trees to the right of the notch. Observers present: David Brown, Mike Moore, Joe Swertinski, Sharon Helmerich, Frank Rohrbacher, Curt Davis.
