Observation details
***Rare; fourth county record and third for MA this year. Very rare in the county. Doing homework when MAE came running into the house to report a possible GOEA circling over the house. Going out it was nowhere to be seen, but moving over to the edge of the gasline we picked it up over the neighbors house. Eventually it moved down the gasline towards us and then dove out of sight over the road heading NW. Fabulous looks as the stiff SSE winds kept it low. Nearly completely dark juv. eagle with no white “armpits” and lacking scattered white anywhere other than the well defined patches on the outer secondaries. Also noted thick black tail band with a clean white base and bulging secondaries which gave a less straight board like profile than Bald Eagles appear when soaring. Given the weather conditions and the circumstances of the original spot by MAE, it's an absurd record. Lifer for all. Photos to be added.
