Observation details
With the beach clean up activities the Piping Plovers were being inadvertently harassed. A scraper and a track dozer kept driving straight through where the plovers were resting in the sand, flushing them. I do not know if there was Take, but even inadvertent harassment is defined as Take by the USFWS for the federally threatened Piping Plover. I informed park staff and staff of the nature center to the north that a biological monitor should be present during the work and the area should be roped off and that there were easy measures that could be implemented to avoid and minimize impacts.
