Observation details
1 adult male and 3 fledglings, each with downy feathers still on the tops of their heads. Adult emerged first and we watched him clamber around the reeds for a time, then he flew across the pond, and 1, then 2 and 3 fledglings flew across the pond and scrambled on the edges of the reeds. The blackbirds were harassing them.
