Observation details
Birds 1, 2, 3, and 4 seen in this segment. Photos. Birds 1-3 showing molt with gaps in inner primaries, white patches where wing coverts shed, bright gold streaks on upperparts. Bird 4 did not show molt gaps appearing uniform in remiges and perhaps scaled with gold-buff on upperparts; this bird also showed a dark cap or hood (juvenile?). All showed thick, heavy bills and bulkier proportions than South Polar Skua (not seen this trip). Birds 1 and 2 documented moving at least 6 miles. It is possible two other birds occurred in this segment, making a total of 6. More study needed.
