A Common Potoo on its nest log, watching for danger through a slitted eye. The strange Common Potoo (Nyctibius griseus) is perfectly camouflaged and is difficult to find. Potoos nest in a shallow depression or knot-hole in the vertical dead branch of a tree, sitting perfectly still and watching for danger through a slitted eye. This grey morph of the Common Potoo was perched on its nest in the main entry area of Iguazu National Park, in Argentina – most people passing by were completely unaware of it. IBC scientific name: Nyctibius griseus griseus. Elevation: 218 m. Date added to IBC: February 16, 2019.
