Observation details
Continuing bird. Seen at the western edge of the campground on the shore, not far from the fence. I watched this bird for a good 20 minutes, during which time it took flight several times, at one point flying directly over my head and disappearing out over the lake towards the dam. A few minutes later it flew back from there and landed on the shore again. I was able to observe and photograph the diagnostic M pattern on the back and wings. While standing on shore the bird was harassed by Great-tailed Grackles, who were only slightly smaller than the Sabine's Gull. When I last saw the bird it had joined the Caspian Tern flock at the little point south of the campground. The bird's back had a scaly appearance, and there was extensive smudginess on the head and neck.
