NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut #2. Bulk reel #508 7:30 AM. One song phrase, given naturally; bird was singing only sporadically at this time as it moved about foraging. I was not in this spot earlier, being in vicinity of camp hoping to record Soisola [Crypturellus erythropus]; this spot ~500 W of camp) [sic]. Quality: 2-. Level: +3. 7.5 ips. LN. 203 tape. Nagra SN recorder; AKG microphone; no parabola. Re-recorded N-4.2 to N-IV. 8:40 AM. The above song phrase was copied to N-IV and played back and very shortly the bird came in, flew actively about and began singing profusely. (Bird silent for ~ 30 min.) Bird collected. Quality: 1-2. Level: +3. Nagra IV recorder; Sennheiser 405 microphone; 36" parabola. 7.5 ips. LN. 203 tape. ~9:10 AM - 9:40 AM. Now after playback of its (preceding) recorded song. There are numerous different phrase patterns used; playback was used from time to time to keep bird active but final section was ~ 10 min. after any playback. Quality: 2 to 1. Level: +3. 7.5 ips. LN. 203 tape. ~10:00 AM to 10:30 AM. No further playback. Quality: 1-2 & 1. Level: +3, 0. 3.75 ips. One song phrase and some calls of Tiaris bicolor in after more playback. Quality: 2. Level: -3. 7.5 ips. LN. Collected = male; skeleton (skull) #[blank] & round skin. Response to playback: Approach. Response to playback: Normal song. Response to playback: Different song.
