Observation details
Foraging with horned lark flock. I never heard this bird call despite the flock flushing and circling several times. This bird was smaller than adjacent horned larks with a distinctive low to the ground posture. Bold dark face frame and bold black streaking on flanks and across the chest. Rufous nape. Two white wing bars separated by dark coverts with heavy rufous edging. Tertials also dark with heavy rufous edging. Belly white. Fleshy colored bill larger than chestnut-collared.
