Observation details
2 perched within ca 2 meters of each other high in an alder ca 50 m below the diversion along the riparian shrub zone. Both seen remaining still for a short time on their respective perches; no apparent antagonism observed. Nonvocal. Later, 5 seen at once in shrubs between the diversion and rocky draw; 4 were perched within 5 m of each other, with no antagonism observed. Observed at least 1 bird fly down into a Chokecherry that had fruits remaining - was not able to see for sure if it was feeding on the fruits. One and occasionally 2 birds seen perching frequently on a smooth wire protruding from a debris pile in reach 2, making short flights out (to the ground?) and returning. One time while perched, I observed a TOSO defecating. Ca 10-20 minutes later, I investigated when the perch was unoccupied and found some moist, apparently fresh tubular scat underneath. It was soft, very pink-purple, and ca 2.5 mm diameter, suggesting much Chokecherry fruit in the diet. I also found 2 Chokecherry pits and some skins underneath. Compared to AMRO, TOSO flight seems to be more buoyant in its undulation.
