Media notes
Photo taken from the west side of Denny Lake after swallows that had been foraging for insects a few feet above the surface of the lake lifted off and flew high above the lake for a few minutes, before returning to forage just above the lake surface. I count approximately 55 individual swallows in this photo. Most of these are Barn Swallows, but I observed a few Northern Rough-winged Swallows mixed in.
Observation details
Swallows were abundant at Denny Lake this morning; most were Barn Swallows; but I carefully followed a few individuals to verify their identification, and saw that they were Northern Rough-winged Swallows.
