Observation details
Seen in the exact same location as the LeConte's Sparrows. I'd been watching the LeConte's for a couple minutes when this darker sparrow popped up. For the next few minutes I had both species in view for comparison. The Nelson's had much darker upper-parts with more orangish face and breast. Also the nape on the Nelson's was plain gray without stripes. When I walked back through this area about a half hour later two Nelson's popped up into view. Took a poor quality photo through my binoculars of one of these Nelson's Sparrows.
