Observation details
A "stub-tailed" wren: small with short tail, held cocked. First found climbing up a tree trunk about 2 feet of ground, hopping from spot to spot, probing. Remarkably uniform rufescent/chestnut. Face looked uniform (I could not distinguish any streaking in auriculars) except a short, paler, poorly defined dash of supercilium starting behind eye. Back unbarred. Tiny tail barred with black on rufescent. Spotting/barring on underparts limited to lower belly. Golden buff checkering on folded primaries (so, along lower edge of folded wing). Bill shorter than that of HOWR. So, to deeply chestnut on back for WIWR, less marked below than typical of WIWR, face more uniform than typical of WIWR, no barring on back (often present on WIWR).
