Immature Sabine's Gull at Jim May Park, Santa Maria, CA
Observation details
Continuing bird found by Wes Fritz earlier in the week. It was the only gull at the park on this day. It was a small gull with a scaly gray mantle and upper wing surface, thin black bill, white underparts and it had a grayish hind neck which was darkest on the nape and extended onto the face. It showed long wing projection. The bird was seen in flight only once and it had a black wedge on the upper surface of the wings from the wrist, along the leading edge of the primary coverts and primaries to the tips. The rest of the wings were white. It had a black terminal band on the white tail. Legs and feet were dull pinkish.
