Observation details
DESCRIPTION: Bold white eye-ring, dark ear patch bordered in white on lower and rear edges, streaked chest / flanks. This bird lacked the median crown stripe and strong eye-line of Savannah Sparrow. It also lacked a gray nape - ruling out Clay-colored Sparrow. LOCATION: I parked in the small shoreline access parking lot between the CostCo in South San Francisco and the Water Quality Control Plant (South San Francisco / San Bruno) at 195 Belle Aire Road. From there I walked N.E. on the San Francisco Bay Trail across the expansive Colma Creek Mouth bridge, took a right on the trail at the end of the bridge, then about 100 yards ahead on the right there are two benches that face each other with a garbage receptacle in between them. The Vesper Sparrow was in the fennel that lines the creek just beyond the benches.
