Observation details
First noticed it because of large head and prominent peak/crest. It was hawking insects from high perches in a swampy area with lots of standing dead trees. I moved around so the sun was at my back and noticed that it was a very dark gray color. It made the nearby peewees look light gray almost greenish by comparison. I began taking photos and got some good diagnostic shots of the dark vest with bright white contrasting throat and middle of belly. In the photos it has its mouth open because it was hot outside and was (presumably) trying to cool down. There were other birds I observed doing this this afternoon too.
