Observation details
Continuing 1st cycle. Small gull with partial dark hood on rear of head, but white forehead, throat, and underparts. Prominent white eye arcs and small black bill. Gray mantle but brown coverts. Primaries black with small white spots. In flight, black terminal tail band not extending to outer retrices, underwings mostly white except for primaries, upperwings brown with blacker primaries and white trailing edge to secondaries. Smaller Bonaparte's Gull would have different head and wing pattern; tail pattern and light underwings rule out (much rarer) Laughing Gull. Photos.
