Observation details
Quite surprised to see four juveniles together early in the survey, flying low and spending a considerable amount of time perched on the ground in the field, reach 4. A bit after this, I saw one perched for several minutes along chain-link fence at the east edge of reach 4, approx. 18 m from the nearest of 3 WEKI, also perched on the fence. The kingbirds were silent and did not seem alarmed. Later, 1-2 harriers seen intermittently in flight, always below the diversion dam. On the return, at 1324, I saw a single juvenile gliding low over the stream in reach 3; at that point there was a gentle W breeze gusting strong, and the harrier was using the breeze to almost hover without flapping, pointed into the wind.
