NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 4. Bulk reel: 355Bird from Cano El Ampaso, Guataporo, Valencia. 203 tape. a) Time: 11:00 to 12:00 AM. Bird #5. This is the only song I could obtain from this "sub-adult"-plumaged male, taken by Alejandro 9 Sept 1973. Quality: "2" (background noise). Level: +3. 3.75 & 7.5 ips. LN. Note re: Cut 3) & Cut 4): Before I could record more of this bird (Cut 3 bird), while I was absent and without my consent or knowledge, Alejandro took this bird (~ July 1972) to use as decoy to try to capture a wild bird. I allowed him to keep it from then on. In 1973 he did succeed in capturing some birds. See separate note. b) ~4:00 PM. More "song." Although there are some ~ typical motifs, given ~ loudly, this seems more like soliloquy or self-song (sub-song). Also, as seems most often the case with caged wild birds, this bird would sing only with some extraneous noise, in this case, water running in my bathroom. Quality: 2. Level: +3. 3.75 ips. LN. c) 7 Sept 1972. ~ 11:30 AM. More "song" as above. Although I tried from ~6:50 AM, I was unable to get any song from this bird, even by running water, until ~11:30 AM. At that time I recorded some, but not until after I tried playback of Cut 2 repeatedly was I finally able to obtain some +/- real song. Then more typical song, accompanied by playback of Cut 2), which is heard in background. Quality: 2. Level: +3. 3.75 ips. LN. Then, later, song induced by rain. Quality: 2. Level: +3. 3.75 ips. LN. Sound stimulation was (other): water/rain.
